At Claritea, we believe your reading life and health data are deeply personal. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Claritea mobile application and related services.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information: When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and profile information (display name, avatar, bio, location).

Reading Data: Books you add, reading progress, session durations, quotes, notes, and reviews you create within the app.

Biometric Data (Optional): If you connect Apple Health or Oura Ring, we access heart rate, HRV, sleep, and readiness data during and around your reading sessions. This data is processed on-device and never sent to our servers unless you explicitly share it (e.g., in a buddy read with biometric sharing enabled).

Audio Preferences: If you connect Spotify, we access your playback state and playlists to control audio during reading sessions. We do not store your Spotify listening history.

2. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and personalize your reading experience
• To generate wellness insights (calm scores, reading readiness, focus analytics)
• To enable social features (buddy reads, clubs, following)
• To improve the app through aggregated, anonymized analytics
• To send reading reminders and notifications (with your permission)

3. Biometric Data Handling

We take your health data seriously:

• On-device processing: Biometric calculations (calm scores, stress detection, reading readiness) happen on your device
• Never sold: We never sell, share, or monetize your health data
• Your control: You can disconnect Apple Health, Oura Ring, or Spotify at any time from Settings > Integrations
• Buddy sharing: Biometric comparisons in buddy reads only occur when both participants explicitly opt in

4. Third-Party Integrations

Claritea integrates with the following services. Each integration is optional and requires your explicit consent:

• Apple Health: Heart rate, HRV, sleep data. Governed by Apple's Health privacy policies.
• Spotify: Playback control and playlist access. Governed by Spotify's privacy policy.
• Oura Ring: Sleep score, readiness score, heart rate, HRV, body temperature, and activity data via the Oura Cloud API. We access this data only with your explicit authorization through OAuth 2.0. Data accessed includes: daily sleep summaries, readiness scores, heart rate, HRV, body temperature deviation, and activity levels. This data is used exclusively to generate your Reading Readiness score and personalized reading time recommendations. Governed by Oura's privacy policy.
• Supabase: Our backend infrastructure for authentication and data storage.

4a. Oura Ring Data Processing

When you connect your Oura Ring to Claritea, we process the following data:

• Data accessed: Sleep scores, readiness scores, resting heart rate, HRV averages, body temperature deviations, activity summaries, and daily readiness contributors
• Purpose: To calculate your Reading Readiness score, recommend optimal reading times, and correlate reading sessions with sleep quality and recovery
• Storage: Oura data summaries are stored in our secure database (Supabase) to enable historical comparisons and trend analysis. Raw Oura API responses are not permanently stored.
• Retention: Oura data associated with your account is retained until you disconnect your Oura Ring or delete your account
• Sharing: Your Oura data is never shared with other users, advertisers, or third parties. Aggregated, anonymized wellness trends may be used to improve app features.
• Revocation: You can disconnect your Oura Ring at any time from Settings > Integrations. Upon disconnection, we stop accessing new data. Previously stored summaries can be deleted by contacting us or deleting your account.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely using Supabase (hosted on AWS). We use row-level security policies to ensure users can only access their own data. All data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in these circumstances:

• With other users, when you explicitly choose to share (public profiles, buddy reads, club activity)
• With service providers who help us operate the app (Supabase, Expo/EAS)
• When required by law or to protect our rights

7. Your Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Correct inaccurate data
• Delete your account and associated data
• Export your reading data
• Withdraw consent for optional data processing
• Control your profile visibility (public/private)

8. Children's Privacy

Claritea is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or email.
